I’m going to begin this post by being real…like really real. This week was hard and marriage felt like an awkward dance/battlefield at times. I’m telling you this not to freak you out or be worried about us but to normalize the fact that being married has its challenges and figuring out life together with another person can be difficult at times. No one has the perfect marriage… some just have a stronger commitment to stick through the poopy times. My best advice if you’re in a spot like this in your relationship is to dance even if it’s awkward…I know I’m being kind of vague here but there are way too many things that can strain your relationship so I want you to fill in your own blank here. Keep dancing, keep talking it out and maybe plan some time to be alone with you partner.
We were both hitting each other’s hot buttons this week so I’m not going to lie, we almost canceled this date night but we went anyways. We had a babysitter and tickets to see Amos Lee with the San Diego Symphony so we weren’t missing that! We sat in traffic on the way to the concert and finally had time to talk and process some of the things that we were struggling with. It’s funny how a simple thing like being alone in a car with your “walls down” can help you cross over to the other side of discord.
We arrived at the Bayside Summer Nights concert, found our seats, shared a bottle of wine, took in the beautiful scene and the San Diego Symphony and Amos Lee spoke to our souls. While we took in the beauty of our city, the sun setting and being serenaded by talented people I was overwhelmed with emotion over the orchestra….all these people doing something they loved, playing the instrument they are passionate about and making a succinct piece of music together was incredibly beautiful. It was so what we both needed and ended up being a night I won’t soon forget.
He really is a great Instagram husband…getting that gram shot!
I love this scene…makes me want to enroll my children in piano lesson ASAP!

Love this post, Chrissy. Marriage is not easy but it is so worth fighting for. I am glad that you two were able to have this incredible night away. It looked like a gorgeous night in the city. xo
Thanks Meghan! You are so right! It was so good to get away and reconnect. 🙂
Thanks a lot for sharing. Marriage is sometimes bumpy but speaking about it is like a taboo. I am happy to know you had a lovely night. ????????

Yeah it was a risk in talking about it but I want everyone to know they can work on their marriage no matter where they are at in it!
