Elskan is the Icelandic word for “Darling”, which is exactly what comes to mind when you view this shop full of handmade items.
“Elskan is a line of handmade apparel for children, designed and created by Amanda Zink -born and raised in Gimli, Manitoba, Iceland. The garments are fashioned using a mix of new and repurposed fabrics in primarily natural fibres (think cotton, linen and wool) making each piece comfortable and wearable. The Spring/Summer line features hand painted fabrics and locally carved wood buttons, details that make each piece as special and unique as your child. Every item is carefully hand-crafted, made one piece at a time by Amanda in her Canadian home studio. She believes in quality craftsmanship and spending that extra bit of time to make her garments as durable as possible, so that they may be passed down as modern heirloom pieces.”
I love the idea that I can preserve these quality pieces and pass them down in our family. These days I’m drawn more to unisex pieces for children…this probably stems from my hope that one day we might have a girl and she can wear all of Waylon’s tees and adorable clothing too. Elskan is the perfect shop to find truly one-of-a-kind pieces designed for children with an element of sentiment, history, and darling designs.
