Facial Self-Care

Has the past year taken it’s toll on your face too? My birthday is March 8th and once you past 35 it just feels like every birthday is just creeping away to the dreaded 40. I’ll be 39 this year and I’m not mad about it. I almost wish I could just skip this year, be fully out of a pandemic so we can fly to Europe for my 40th and call it good.

Last year on my birthday we went to my favorite French restaurant Jeune et Jolié. My mom and dad were supposed to meet us there for dinner but instead we got a call that my dad was in the ER with an intestinal obstruction. At the time we thought he might just be dealing with an appendicitis so there wasn’t an immediate need to head to the hospital. Sam and I ate our delicious dinner not fully savoring it all as the outcome of my dad’s condition was unknown. A few days later we visited my dad after his emergency surgery in the hospital and the vibe was foreboding. I remember seeing WARNING signs everywhere saying: IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO CHINA OF OVERSEAS IN THE PAST MONTH DO NOT ENTER.

When I think back to my last birthday I wish I could have savored that meal, known that my father was going to be okay and enjoyed every moment sipping on my Lé Bon cocktail while I turned another year older. My 39th year was nothing like I thought it would be as yours probably wasn’t either. I hate to say it but the truth is a lot of the stress I felt this past year has shown on my face. I know we all age; I believe aging is beautiful. I also believe in caring for ourselves in ways that makes us feel confident.

I’ve been thinking about doing a peel or laser treatment of some sort to help me even out my skin tone and I’ve been really interested in trying out Botox. While looking for someone who’s work I liked and trusted, I was immediately drawn to Dr. Malone’s work and method. Dr. Malone practices in La Jolla at Malone Facial Plastic Surgery. She is all about helping her clients achieve natural looking results using the most scientifically advanced regenerative treatments and founded in a curated experience with holistic influences. This was just the refreshment I was looking for… going into my next birthday and the last year of my 30’s I wanted to feel and look more refreshed.

For the first time I tried Botox and I will never look back…. IT’S AMAZING! Dr. Malone injected Botox into 4 areas of my forehead and the results were so natural looking…. basically I look like a refreshed 34 year old. This treatment costs around $750 but result can last up to a year! Click HERE for more information on Botox.

The other treatment I received to eliminate my remaining Melasma (hyperpigmentation) was a IPL treatment. The Cutera LimeLight IPL delivers a non-invasive light treatment that can be customized for different skin tones and aging skin conditions. It can help remove solar lentigines, improve your skin tone, and restores that youthful glow to your face – all with minimal to no downtime! You must know that this treatment makes your dark spots darker for the next few days after the initial treatment and then the dark scab like skin falls off so plan your week accordingly. We only did one side of my face at first to see how my skin would react to it and I’ll go back in a few weeks for more. 😉

I love my refreshed new look for 2021 cause as you have probably figured out 2021 is just 2020’s big sister haha! I can’t recommend Dr. Malone for facial treatments and or surgery enough. Follow me on Instagram @chrissyjpowers for future update on my LPL Limelight Facial results.

Hope you’re doing well!

With hope and healing,

Chrissy
