How To Pick The Perfect White Paint

How To Pick The Perfect White PaintStress, busy-ness, and anxiety seem to be a normal part of our everyday lives at the moment,
making the need for a home that acts as a relaxing retreat more important than ever. Creating a
peaceful sanctuary within your own home can help lower your stress and anxiety, whisking you
away from overwhelm of the outside world. One of the quickest ways to do so is assessing the
color scheme within your home. As a marriage and family therapist that specializes in stress,
anxiety, and trauma release, I have been determined to make every aspect of our new home
contribute to creating a peaceful environment and reduce the stress my family feels on an
everyday basis.

How To Pick The Perfect White Paint
An easy way to transform your home into a peaceful retreat is by selecting the right paint colors
for the walls within your home. You might not notice it, but your body and your mind both react
unconsciously to seeing colors and the colors on the walls inside of your home play a huge role
in our mood and energy levels.  When painting rooms in your home, you want to think about
how the color will make you feel when you are inside the room.

How To Pick The Perfect White Paint
Research shows that white spaces have a positive effect on mood and energy. White walls
inside your home inspire restfulness, airiness, calm and joy; however, not all whites are created
equal! When it comes to white paints, there are so many options in undertones, finishes, and
tones and they can all create a different feel within the home. So how do you find the right one?
I teamed up with BEHR® Paint to help you find the perfect shade of white to make your home
into a relaxing retreat:

1. Check the lighting in the room. North-facing rooms usually have cool natural light, so
you’ll want to choose a warm white for these spaces. South-facing rooms usually have
warm natural light, so you may find it helpful to choose a cooler white for these spaces.
2. If selecting a warm white, choosing a smooth and creamy color will give your space a
cozy, relaxing vibe. If selecting a cooler white, choose ones with gray undertones for a
white that will be crisp, but not too stark, opening up the room and making it feel bigger
and brighter and leaving you feeling refreshed and renewed.
3. Try real samples in the spaces you are painting. Paint a sample on each wall since the
light will hit each wall differently. Look at the paint during different times of the day and
assess how it makes you feel when you look at the swatch.
4. Keep in mind the other features that will be in the room including colors and textures.
Bright, cool whites can be a great contrast against dark wood floors, while warmer
whites work well with earthy colors and wooden floors that have red and gold in them.

We knew that for the majority of our open plan living spaces, we wanted a minimal, yet warm
space. We teamed up with BEHR® Paint to find the perfect neutral paint color for our walls to
create a welcoming and calming effect within our home and selected Swiss Coffee 12 as the
perfect base for a calming space throughout our open-plan living areas. Swiss Coffee is a warm,
welcoming shade of white designed to evoke calm. It has just a touch cream, giving it a soothing
effect that’s perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere in the home. Using this soft, warm white
across our home in the spaces that our family will be spending the most time in like our kitchen
and living areas, we have created a welcoming and cozy feeling within our home. Swiss Coffee
gives us a soothing, calm interior that can help make our home a sanctuary in the midst of the
craziness in our everyday lives.
