Outdoor Reading/Play Nook

Sometimes I get ideas so fast they stress out my husband, but I see it all in my mind and just know it will work. This reading/play nook was one of those inspired ideas. I saw it immediately after the stairs were put in and I had to bring it to life with this rattan chair from Serena & Lily. Read on to see how I made this area complete with items we already had.

These are the stairs that lead up to our rooftop deck which provided the perfect anchor for this dreamy rattan chair from Serena & Lily; which was incidentally the only thing I bought to create this space. Sam anchored it with a truckbed D-ring attachment found in the auto department at Home Depot which hold up to 2,700 lbs. Use headlock brand structural screws to fix it and spray paint it to match your surface.

Money saving decor tip: Look around your house and garage for things first before going out to buy new items.

I don’t know if you’re like me but I like to save things for a rainy day and somehow had all these other items in our home and garage just waiting for this day that I could give them new life in a new space.

Sam hung this rattan chair and I moved around some potted plants that we already had as well as this Ikea DUKTIG play kitchen that I makeover for Zeke when he was 2. Click HERE to find even more inspiration on how you can hack this IKEA play kitchen.

For outdoor rugs just pick something that is sturdy enough to withstand the outdoor elements and also cleanable. I love this natural fiber rug from World Market from a few years ago but it’s is still for sale!

For a whimsical touch add Micro LED battery operated string lights.

Lastly, bring out some toys that you don’t care if they get a little weathered or worn and throw them in a basket with some outdoor pillows.
