Well we’ve done it! We survived the Mount Everest of Parenthood…the first year of having 3 kids.
Ruby turned one last week! We celebrated her precious life with a few family members and close friends at our home last weekend.
I almost didn’t do the whole first birthday party thing because June was a busy month, our yard is mostly dirt and weeds and I always get overwhelmed with the guest list…I tend to want to invite everyone for fear of someone feeling left out but in the past when I’ve done that I don’t get to talk to anyone and it’s just too crowded in our tiny outdoor space.
In true Chrissy style a month before her birthday I said “YES we’re doing it”. Then I combined three themes and made it Ruby’s Lemonade, Flower, Ice Cream stand and invited our immediate family and 3 other families that we do life with.
Sam made the Lemonade stand the weekend before with wood scraps we already had and painted it white with chalkboard paint on the sign so we can change the name of it in the future if Waylon or Zeke want to try their hand at being entrepreneurs.
It all came together so well! It helps to delegate though. My mother in law makes all our kid’s birthday cakes and I enlisted the help of 2 creative friends to make her party extra special. Stephanie from Witty Bash a local and online party store owner donated the most adorable sunshine plates, cups and flower decor and made this epic balloon arch that made everything pop (no pun intended ha ha). Krissie Mattison a local macrame artist of Salty Knots Macrame lent me this amazing hanging for Ruby to eat her smash cake under.
We set the party time for 3:00-5:00pm and kept the food simple with a sandwich and veggie tray from Costco, Mighty Booch Kombucha (I’m obsessed) and chips and dip… oh and of course the main event…. Ice Cream and cake! We buy our ice cream cones from Smart and Final for $7 and it comes in a cute vintage looking box with a bajillion cones in it.
Let’s be real, this party was really for Sam and I in celebration of surviving our first year as a family of 5. Whether you go all out and have a party or just light a candle for you and your baby it’s all about celebrating what you’ve done in bringing life into this world and raising a good human.
How gorgeous is this macrame hanging for Salty Knots Macrame?! Krissie the artist lent it to us for Ruby’s cake smash.
This is my favorite Kombucha from Mighty Booch! It was a refreshing alternative to sparkling water or soda and hey we gave the gift of a healthy gut to our guests ha ha.
Our yard is largely a dirt hill but this paper flower chandelier fancied it right up!
I set up our Veer beach tent and put some balloons in it for the babies and it was a hit and also a very handy play pen.
Put lemons in a bucket with water and let the babies play and get a little wet…such a fun sensory play activity!
Ruby and her friend Roux…kinda like Pin The Tail on the Donkey ha ha.
My dress was so light and perfect for the party. It’s by Souvenir and I found my metallic rose Birkenstocks for a fraction of the price on Poshmark.
That’s all folks! A fun afternoon and a worthy milestone to celebrate… and incase you haven’t heard it lately, “YOU’RE DOING A GOOD JOB MAMA.”
