As a marriage and family therapist that specializes in stress and anxiety release, as well as the mom of three kids, I am constantly looking for simple ways to reduce anxiety in my children’s everyday lives.
Surprisingly, diet is a really easy place to start! Research has shown that diets high in sugar can result in increased anxiety in children and negatively affect their moods (I mean, hello, we have all witnessed the dreaded sugar crash), even contributing to depression and mood disorders.
I’m far from perfect, but these days with heightened stress and anxiety all around us, I try to keep my kids’ sugar intake to a minimum. By watching what they are putting into their bodies, I know that in some small way I am helping to keep my kids’ anxiety levels at bay, which in turn lowers my stress levels. It’s a win-win, right?
While added sugars can obviously be found in sweets and candies, 50 percent of added sugars in our diet come from savory food and 33 percent come from beverages like juice. These sugars are often hidden in foods and beverages marketed to children, so we might be heightening our kids’ anxiety without even realizing it!
That’s why I am so excited to partner with Tree Top’s new Fruit + Water, a juice that is low in sugar, with 50% less sugar than the average 100% juices and only sweetened with real fruit juice, from a transparent brand that nurtures and cares for its products in the same way that we as parents nurture and care for our children.
Tree Top’s Fruit + Water contains no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners, or high-fructose corn syrup. The blend of fruit juice concentrates with water, natural flavors and added Vitamin C supports growing kids and provides a real fruit taste that my kids love (Ruby especially loves this and is so dang cute when she says “juwwwwse”).
Tree Top’s Fruit + Water is made with only the simplest of ingredients, so it seems fitting that Tree Top’s Fruit + Water is a simple way to support happy, healthy, stress-free kids!
