If you’re looking for a place that’s urban, hip, and without shortage of good things to eat, than North Park in San Diego is your town. This enclave of SD is nestled in between Downtown, Hill Crest, and Balboa Park. You can’t throw a rock in this neighborhood without hitting a new coffee shop, brewery or boutique…which is why we went. The culture is rich here. For good places to eat and shop with kids, here are some establishments that have our approval.
WHERE TO EAT & SHOP IN NORTH PARK
EAT:
- Waypoint Public: Gastropub food, good beer, a killer kid’s menu and a play area for children with toys and a movie screen.
- Hammond’s Gormet Ice Cream: Really good and unique ice cream with the option to try a small tasting of eight cones.
- Bottlecraft: Beer shop and tasting room curating the best local, domestic, and international craft beer.
- Dark Horse Coffee Roasters: “Relax it’s just coffee”…that’s their motto. I fully support any hipster coffee shop that says it like it is.
SHOP:
- Aloha Sunday: Aloha Sunday is built around the notion that simple things can, and should, be made well. With a bi-coastal vision, the brand operates from both CA and NY and offers a “classy surfer style” if you will.
- Verbatim Books: We happened to have a massive tantrum here (over a a certain Lightening McQueen book that was not bought)… but hey no one looked at us weird or asked us to leave so we give this place a huge thumbs up.
- Pigment: I’m in love with everything in this shop. If you come to North Park for only one thing, come here! You can make your own terrarium and succulent/air plant garden, buy unique cards and gifts and find all the trendy plants and pots for sale here.
- Replay Toys: A thrifty children’s boutique…this store literally saved our day. It offered a fun break for the kiddos, throwbacks to toys I used to play with, and $1-$2 toys that made my 4 year old’s day…plus you get a free book with any purchase!
